Innotech_Ignition_integration

We are happy to announce that Roger Hutchison, Innotech’s Electrical Engineer and Automation & Controls expert, is now an Ignition Registered Integrator. What does this mean for Innotech and our clients? Read on to learn about this platform, how it works, and how we can use it to increase data visibility in a production environment.

What is Ignition?

In Inductive Automation’s words, “Ignition by Inductive Automation is the world’s first universal industrial application platform that lets you seamlessly collect all your data, design any kind of industrial application with ease, and instantly web-deploy clients to anyone, anywhere – without limits.”

But what does it do?

Simply put, this software platform allows us to seamlessly integrate data from multiple sources and share that data in myriad ways. Another way to think about it is to answer the questions about production that operations does not have visibility on:

  • How much downtime does this machine have in a week?
  • How much waste is created daily in this machine?
  • When should I schedule maintenance for this line?

For a full description of the system, you van view their overview here.

How is Ignition Used?

Ignition gives us a platform that allows us to integrate multiple machines. With this integration in place, not only can we then collect data from these sources, but we can also remotely configure settings and troubleshoot issues.

Being able to offer remote programming and/or maintenance assistance mutually benefits both Innotech and our clients:

  • Proximity: Not located in the Pacific Northwest? No problem! Our engineers can access your controls from anywhere on the planet.
  • Timeliness: Having remote access greatly speeds up response time by eliminating the need for travel and schedule coordination.
  • Troubleshooting: Access to raw data vastly improves understanding of any issues without the need for a site visit, increasing efficiency and lowering downtimes.

We are currently working on a real-life Ignition application at one of our client’s facilities here in Bellingham. It involves aggregating data from multiple pieces of equipment in a processing line, with the goal of increasing output efficiencies by identifying bottlenecks in the process. Stay tuned as we add more Ignition projects to our portfolio!
